12 October 2026 BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of new-energy vehicles, has introduced its new flagship SUV at the prestigious Paris Auto Show: the ATTO 8. The seven-seater sets new standards for packaging and interior quality and technology, as well as introducing FLASH Charging technology to the BYD range for 10-97% refills in only nine minutes.
Positioned at the peak of BYD's SUV range – which already includes the ATTO 2, ATTO 3, SEALION 5 and SEAL U – the ATTO 8 will be available with a choice of power outputs and rear- or all-wheel drive when it arrives in markets in Q1 2027. This combination allows customers to prioritise maximum real-world combined range from the 115kWh battery (405 miles) or target ultimate performance, with a 0-62mph acceleration time of just 4.6 seconds in the 775PS Excellence AWD version.
BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li said: "As a technology company, BYD is all about turning intelligence into reality – and the ATTO 8 is the perfect example of this. It blends our latest powertrain and 2nd Generation Blade Battery to offer more than 600km of range, seven-seat flexibility and our latest innovations in cabin technology. And FLASH Charging is the breakthrough for EVs that everyone has been waiting for – recharging as fast as refuelling, removing range anxiety. With this model, we're really demonstrating how our investment in R&D isn't just focused on coming up with fresh ideas; we're putting these improvements into the hands of customers around the world, to improve their lives."
The ATTO 8 measures 5040mm long, 1996mm wide and 1760mm tall – dimensions that place it firmly in the full-sized SUV class and allow generous accommodation for seven people and their luggage.
Its exterior looks reflect the latest evolution of BYD's design language. The front features ultra-slim integrated daytime-running lights and matrix-LED headlights, above a lower bumper that incorporates crisp angles to widen the appearance, giving the ATTO 8 a strong, confident face.
The flanks feature a sharp crease at the leading edge of the front doors, which leads into a strong shoulder line that runs along the profile towards a muscular curve above the rear wheelarch. The roofline hints at the excellent cabin space, thanks to a darkened C-pillar and a chrome-embellished D-pillar that help to stretch the car's visual length.
At the rear, 'infinity knot' tail-lights sit either side of an illuminated central BYD logo, and there's a neatly integrated roof spoiler, along with subtle edges on the rear quarter panels that help to clean up airflow, boosting aerodynamic efficiency to help maximise range.
BYD's new flagship comes in two all-electric versions, allowing customers to choose between rear- and all-wheel drive. The Design RWD edition has a single rear motor producing 462PS (340kW) and 365Nm of torque – ensuring a 0-62mph acceleration time of just eight seconds. The 115kWh battery offers a WLTP Combined range of 405 miles – enough to get from London to Edinburgh, for example.
The Excellence AWD, meanwhile, has an additional front motor that takes the maximum system output up to 775PS (570kW) and 775Nm of torque, delivering a sports car-rivalling 0-62mph acceleration time of just 4.6 seconds. This version shares the same battery capacity as the RWD model and even with the extra performance, the WLTP Combined range is still 374 miles.
The ATTO 8 is the first BYD model in Europe to be equipped with a 2nd Generation Blade Battery, allowing FLASH Charging that slashes the times normally required for electric refills. FLASH Charging can take even the ATTO 8's sizeable 115kWh battery from 10-70% of its capacity in just five minutes, and from 10-97% in only nine minutes. And in ice-cold temperatures as low as -30°C, conditions that normally drastically reduce charging power, it requires only 12 minutes to refill from 20-97%. This is how FLASH Charging keeps its promise of 'ready in 5, full in 9, cold add 3'.
Backed by a FLASH Charging network expansion that will see 3000 stations installed across Europe by the end of 2027, the ATTO 8 EV is truly the first zero-compromise all-electric seven-seat SUV; for context, its recharging time from 10% to 97% is around a third of the time needed to take rival SUVs from 10% to 80%.
CABIN DESIGNED FOR LIFE, PACKED WITH CUSTOMER-FOCUSED TECHNOLOGY
The ATTO 8's cabin treatment is clean and sophisticated, with high-quality materials throughout and generous space and features that make it a comfortable everyday seven-seater. The interior is bathed in natural light, thanks to a 2.39m2 panoramic glass roof.
The design of the fascia mixes crisp angles that create a visual link between the doors and dashboard edges with soft-touch materials (including suede leather) in all key areas and lots of usable space. Both versions of the ATTO 8 feature a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, a 26-inch widescreen head-up display and a 15.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen that brings Google Built-in1 for Google Navigation, Google Assistant and Google Play Store.
The accommodation is specifically tailored to the demands of seven-seat SUV customers, who want zero compromise for any occupants. The front seats feature heating, ventilation and massage function, and this is replicated in the outer seats of the middle row. Even the two third-row seats feature adjustable headrests for extra support and comfort, while the rear cabin gets its own air-conditioning control panel (tri-zone climate control is standard) and a pair of cupholders in the armrest. All the seats, in both versions of the car, are upholstered in genuine leather.
Creature comforts include a 10-speaker sound system on the Design RWD version and 21-speaker DiSound audio on the Excellence AWD, plus a front refrigerator that can cool to -6°C and warm to 50°C. All occupants can keep their devices fully charged too, thanks to dual 50W wireless smartphone charging and dual 60W Type C ports up front, and a pair of additional Type C ports (1x18W, 1x60W) in the rear.
The ATTO 8 delivers exceptional flexibility and practicality; even with all three rows in use, there is still 270 litres of luggage capacity. And this can be expanded to 1960 litres with the middle and rear rows folded down. This space is complimented by a 136-litre 'frunk' (front trunk) that is large enough for overnight cases.
Dealers across European markets will start selling the ATTO 8 in the first quarter of 2027.

EU-SHOW DEBUT FOR SHARK PICKUP, WITH DMO SUPER HYBRID POWER
BYD's other Paris show star is the SHARK DMO, the innovative pickup making its EU-market debut in the French capital ahead of sales starting in the coming months. BYD's proven Super Hybrid powertrain brings performance far in advance of what can be achieved by traditional diesel pickups, along with class-leading efficiency and the ability to travel up to 56 miles on electric power alone.
The SHARK is designed for customers seeking a more efficient type of pickup that can complete many journeys on electricity, while retaining the ability to keep up with the demands of work and active lifestyles, including longer-distance travel. With seating for five in its double-cab layout, the SHARK offers a comfortable cabin, complete with typically useful BYD technologies. And it brings Vehicle-to-Load, allowing a range of devices to be powered – for work and play – from either of two onboard power sockets.
Super Hybrid DMO features two electric motors – one on the front axle with 231PS and 310Nm of torque, and another at the rear producing 204PS/340Nm. The combined maximum system output is 436PS and 650Nm of torque, enough for a 0-62mph acceleration time of just 5.7 seconds.
The SHARK can blend this potent performance with real-world efficiency because its DMO powertrain is designed to offer an EV-first driving experience. So the 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine (mounted longitudinally) spends most of its time running as a generator of electricity for either the motors directly, or the Blade Battery that sits at the heart of the powertrain. On its own, it produces 150PS and 240Nm of torque.
The SHARK features a ladder-frame chassis, delivering better durability and wheel articulation – and its construction has been specifically designed to house the key components of the DMO powertrain. The Blade Battery is integrated into the platform using CTC (Cell-to-Chassis) technology, ensuring that it is properly protected in rougher conditions. CTC also significantly enhances the overall vehicle safety, since more than 50% of the construction is in high-strength steel, and the combined strength of the SHARK's structure is 34,048Nm/deg.
At 32.2kWh, the SHARK's Blade Battery has comfortably the largest capacity in the pickup segment – almost treble that of the only other plug-in hybrid on the European market. It ensures both outstanding pure-electric range of 56 miles – another new class benchmark – and excellent real-world efficiency and range. On a full charge and a full tank, the SHARK can travel 419 miles and its WLTP Weighted Fuel Consumption is just 80.7mpg. Even with the battery at its lowest SoC level, it still returns 29.4mpg.
Recharging the battery fully from 15% SOC takes just over three hours when hooked up to a three-phase 11kW AC charger – and for faster refills, standard 55kW DC charging can take the battery from 30% to 80% in just 21 minutes.
As usual with a BYD, the SHARK comes loaded with standard equipment and innovations, many of them new to the pickup class. Cabin comforts include vegan-leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats and a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system.
Useful technologies include a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument panel accompanied by a head-up display, a 15.6-inch infotainment screen with navigation, voice assistant and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, remote control via the BYD app for advanced heating and cooling of the cabin, a 50W wireless smartphone-charging pad, exterior 'puddle' lights, front and rear parking sensors with a 360°-view camera, and keyless entry and keyless start.
In addition, the SHARK features two power sockets that allow connection to its Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature. This provides up to 6kW of power to external devices, allowing tools to be connected at work sites, or everything from an air compressor to a power washer to be hooked up for activity days away from home. V2L can be accessed using the car's AC charging port or via a specific socket in the wall of the load bed.
The SHARK DMO is due to go on sale in selected markets in the next three months, with a wider rollout across Europe planned for the first half of 2027.
UPDATED FIVE-SEAT DOLPHIN SURF JOINS FULL RANGE ON SHOW IN PARIS
The ATTO 8 and SHARK DMO are joined on BYD's Paris stand by a comprehensive line-up of new-energy models, including Super Hybrid DM-i vehicles like the ATTO 2 DM-i, SEALION 5 DM-i and SEAL U DM-i, and all-electric stars such as the ATTO 3 EVO and SEALION 7.
In addition, a new version of the DOLPHIN SURF is making its public debut in Paris. BYD's most accessible EV is now offered with five seats, complete with an extra headrest for the third second-row passenger, and revisions to the cabin and equipment list. Infotainment receives a major upgrade, with the range-topping Comfort version now featuring a particularly large screen for the compact-hatchback segment, at 12.8 inches. Its system also comes with Google Built-in1, giving users access to not only Google Assistant and Google Navigation but also Google Play Store, for hundreds of additional applications. The Comfort version also has a larger digital instrument panel, up from seven inches to 8.8 inches.
The front cabin features a significant shift on all versions, with the gear selector moved from its rocker dial on the front of the dashboard to a stalk mounted on the steering column. As a result, the other stalk now operates not only the indicators and lights but also the windscreen wipers.
There's also a new design of steering wheel, and this is now heated on both Boost and Comfort versions of the car – another standout feature in the class. Boost versions now feature heated seats too, creating an even more compelling feature set on the mid-range trim level, while all versions of the DOLPHIN SURF have climate control, making it easier than ever to adjust and maintain cabin temperatures.
There are changes to the materials in the DOLPHIN SURF too, with Active and Boost editions now featuring fabric upholstery, and Comfort retaining vegan leather. Other tweaks to the equipment list include a boot cover as standard across the range and a different line-up of front USB ports, with a pair of Type-C sockets installed instead of the previous Type-A/Type-C combination.
The DOLPHIN SURF gets a new paint option, Skiing White, as part of a four-colour palette that also includes the standard Lime Green, Obsidian Black and Ice Blue. Active versions of the car now feature the same style of 16-inch alloy wheels as Boost and Comfort, replacing the 15-inch steel items. And inside, a blue finish is now available alongside the original black and grey treatment.
Five-seat flexibility, combined with these key equipment additions, best-in-class infotainment and a 308-litre boot, reinforces the DOLPHIN SURF's position as the most complete offering in the compact electric-hatchback segment. The four- and five-seat versions will be offered alongside each other for the foreseeable future, depending on specific market requirements and sales patterns.
