Overview

BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of new-energy vehicles, is delighted to introduce its most accessible SUV yet: the ATTO 2. Blending compact dimensions and manoeuvrability, with BYD’s innovative Blade Battery with state-of-the-art Cell-to-Body construction, cutting-edge cabin technology and generous levels of standard equipment, the ATTO 2 is the perfect smart and agile urban EV for those who don’t want to compromise on comfort and ‘big-car’ features.

The ATTO 2 is designed for customers who want the raised ride height of an SUV, but in an affordable package that is tailored to urban streets and parking arrangements. It perfectly complements the larger ATTO 3 in BYD’s expanding European line-up.

BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li said, “The B-segment SUV class is incredibly important in Europe, and with the ATTO 2, we think we have an offering that will appeal to that large potential customer base. It takes all of BYD’s strengths in batteries, electric motors and Cell-to-Body construction and combines them in a compact package that has all of the technologies people want in an urban SUV.”

BOOST ON SALE NOW, WITH COMFORT DUE TOWARDS END OF 2025
The ATTO 2 comes in Time Grey paint as standard, with three shades – Hiking Green, Skiing White and Obsidian Black – available as options. Both models are on sale now, with first deliveries of Boost expected within the next few weeks – Comfort models are due to arrive by the end of 2025.

Concept and Design

SOPHISTICATED SUV DESIGN IN A COMPACT FOOTPRINT
The BYD ATTO 2 successfully mixes unmistakeable SUV design cues with compact dimensions. The ATTO 2 measures 4,310mm in length, 1,830mm width and 1,675mm in height – so it’s 145mm shorter and 45mm slimmer than the ATTO 3, but still generously proportioned compared with many B-segment SUVs. It has a relatively long wheelbase of 2,620mm, allowing more cabin space than in many rivals and ensuring short front and rear overhangs that improve approach and departure angles to help reinforce the SUV image.

The front of the vehicle features neatly integrated full-LED headlights and slim daytime-running lights, which work with the bright trim of the front grille to give the ATTO 2 a strong visual presence. The front bumper has sharp angles for a dynamic look, along with bright highlights low down and efficiency-boosting vertical air curtains at the outer edges.

The sides of the ATTO 2 have lower cladding, broken up by highlights, to help accentuate the height of the car while maintaining a look of agility, and a ‘floating’ roofline that’s punctuated by a distinctive body-coloured element that meets glass at the C-pillar. The surfacing incorporates strong curves that, when combined with the dynamic alloy-wheel design, give the car a sense of energy.

At the rear, a distinctive roof spoiler sits above a full-width light bar that joins ‘Chinese knot’ taillights that look like the number 8 and a Mobius Infinity Ring, signifying endless good luck. A convex rear bumper and further bright highlights on the lower cladding complete a sporty look.

CABIN BLENDS GEOMETRIC STYLE AND EASY-TO-USE SIMPLICITY
Inside the ATTO 2, the layout mixes sharp styling and premium materials with generous space and cleverly integrated technology. The front cabin design builds on the exterior treatment, with the fascia based on simple, clean lines.

The interior features padded surfaces in all key areas, bringing a premium feel to the B-segment, and integrated handles in the front and rear doors, as well as in the lower centre console – again, building on the car’s SUV image, and creating a sense of consistency.

On all versions of the ATTO 2, both front seats are electrically adjustable – again, an unusual feature in the B-segment - and both trim levels brings heating to these seats and the steering wheel.

The centre console contains a pair of cup-holders and an integrated arm rest, which opens up to reveal one of several storage areas. The area also incorporates hard keys for some key functions, such as the windscreen demister, along with a volume knob for the sound system and a switch that flicks between the four driving modes – Eco, Normal, Sport and Snow, which focus on efficiency, everyday driving, throttle response and low-grip security respectively.

The cabin ambiance is enhanced by a panoramic glass roof, which allows generous amounts of natural light for all occupants. It comes as standard on all versions of the ATTO 2, along with an electrically adjustable sunshade that helps to maintain a comfortable temperature on warmer days. Designed with EVs in mind, BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 has a completely flat floor, so the rear cabin remains practical enough for family use, with generous legroom and headroom.

All versions of the ATTO 2 feature an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel, with a 12.8-inch rotatable touchscreen in both versions. BYD’s in-car software brings support for apps such as Spotify, YouTube, Zoom and Amazon Music. It’s also capable of receiving Over The Air (OTA) upgrades.

The system includes wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay – and passengers have ample opportunity to keep their devices charged, with 60W USB Type C and a 7.5W Type A ports up front, and two further USB sockets in the rear. The ATTO 2 also gets a 15W wireless charging pad in the centre console.

As with other BYDs, the ATTO 2 features a sophisticated voice control system. Accessed via the phrase “Hi BYD”, it allows the user to activate many key functions, such as interaction with the heating and ventilation, or even opening and closing the electric windows. BYD’s software expertise also brings multi-touch features that improve the usability of the infotainment display; even when running Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, swiping up and down with three fingers adjusts the cabin temperature, while swiping from side to side changes the ventilation fan speed.

Beyond the passenger compartment, the ATTO 2’s boot measures 400 litres – or 450 litres for Comfort models – which is more than many conventionally powered C-segment family hatchbacks. And lowering the split folding rear seat increases this capacity to 1,340 litres and 1,370 litres, complete with a flat floor space.

Technology

BLADE BATTERY WITH CELL-TO-BODY CONSTRUCTION
The new ATTO 2 makes full use of BYD’s huge commitment to research and development, and harnesses the potential of the e-Platform 3.0 that sits at the heart of all the company’s pure-electric vehicles. The car features a Blade Battery with a capacity of 51.1kWh in Boost models and 64.8 kWh in Comfort, and for the first time in a compact BYD model, it uses Cell-to-Body (CTB) construction. This process integrates the battery completely into the vehicle chassis, with the top cover of the pack acting as the floor for the passenger compartment. The CTB layout, which is unique to BYD and a first in the compact SUV segment, delivers improved packaging and exceptional levels of body rigidity.

The Blade Battery itself is designed to deliver class-leading safety, durability and performance. The technology is also incredibly space efficient, with cells installed directly instead of being fitted in multiple modules. This allows more cells to be squeezed into the same area than with a conventional battery construction.

In addition, the Blade Battery uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) as a cathode material. LFP has higher levels of safety and durability compared with conventional lithium-ion batteries, while also being 100% free of cobalt.

LFP batteries are more resistant to extreme temperatures, less sensitive to fluctuations in temperature and can withstand more charge and discharge cycles with hardly any loss of capacity, making them particularly durable.

The Blade Battery construction also has an exceptional safety level, since it exceeds the requirements of the punishing Nail Penetration Test – a rigorous method of evaluating battery thermal runaway and simulating the consequences of a serious road accident.

BYD TECHNOLOGIES BRING CABIN FEATURES UNIQUE TO THE CLASS
As a technology company, BYD strives to include innovative features and functions in all of its vehicles – and the ATTO 2 is no exception. As a result, this striking new entry to the compact-SUV class comes as standard with several features that are either cost options elsewhere, or new to the segment as a whole.

The ATTO 2 stands out by allowing owners to access the vehicle in a convenient variety of ways – using either the regular key or, through NFC technology, a slim key card, a smartphone or a wearable. Remote smartphone access, via the BYD app, also allows users to use several vehicle functions, including preconditioning the cabin and activating heated seats.

The car’s infotainment system also supports a karaoke function. Developed in conjunction with leading karaoke software brand Stingray, the system – operated via an optional microphone accessory – has an extensive choice of songs, supports several languages and works through the car’s own speakers, while showing appropriate lyrics on the infotainment display.

In addition, the ATTO 2 offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), a function that would normally be reserved for much more expensive models. Operating at up to 3.3 kW, an additional external socket allows users to power a variety of devices – everything from a coffee machine to a vacuum cleaner.

Performance

E-PLATFORM 3.0 DELIVERS BENEFITS IN SPACE AND AGILITY
BYD’s proven e-Platform 3.0 has allowed engineers to give the ATTO 2 the perfect dynamic set-up for urban use, while still supporting flexible packaging that delivers space for five and their luggage. The suspension configuration – MacPherson struts at the front, and a torsion beam at the rear – offers a mix of responsiveness, agility and comfort, while a turning radius of 5.25 metres is competitive for an SUV of this size and well suited to urban streets. In addition, the compact rear-suspension installation allows the flexible practicality of a 450-litre load bay.

All versions of the ATTO 2 sit on 17-inch alloy wheels as standard, using ventilated front and solid rear disc brakes.

INSTANT ELECTRIC-MOTOR PUNCH AND 463 KM OF URBAN RANGE
The ATTO 2 Boost has a front-mounted motor producing 130 kW and 290 Nm of torque which Comfort produces 150 kW and 310 Nm. Both models can travel from 0-62 mph in just 7.9 seconds, with a top speed of 99 mph. The 51.1 kWh Blade Battery delivers a WLTP combined range of 214 miles, with a city figure of 302 miles. The larger 64.8 kWh battery delivers a range of 267 miles, or 375 miles for city driving.

The ATTO 2 Boost features 82kW DC charging while the Comfort has a DC charging capacity of 155 kW. Boost models can restore the battery from 10% to 80% in 38 minutes, and from 30% to 80% of capacity in 29 minutes. Comfort models can charge from 10-80% in as little as 25 minutes and from 30 to 80% in 19 minutes.

A three-phase 11kW AC charger is included as standard; it can take the battery from completely empty to 100% in five and a half hours (7.2 hours for Comfort).

The ATTO 2 is notable among compact SUVs in offering a heat pump as standard; this feature, which is not available even as an option on many of the car’s competitors, helps to maximise efficiency and range in extreme conditions, particularly in cold weather.

Equipment

GENEROUS EQUIPMENT LISTS DELIVER GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY
The ATTO 2 may be BYD’s most compact SUV in Europe to date, but comes packed with standard equipment, including many features more commonly associated with larger vehicles. There’s an easy-to-understand range structure, comprised of two trim levels with two powertrain options.

Blended with its compact dimensions, the ATTO 2 Boost comes highly equipped as standard, with items such as 12.8-inch rotatable touchscreen; wireless smartphone charging; high-tech audio system with eight speakers; ‘Hi BYD’ intelligent voice control; and vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology, which enables owners to power external devices such as a coffee machine or lawnmower.

In addition to a larger battery, Comfort models add privacy glass in the rear; electrically folding door mirrors; adjustable lumbar support for the driver’s seat; and an additional 50 litres of boot space.

COMPREHENSIVE SUITE OF SAFETY AND DRIVER-ASSISTANCE TECH
The new BYD ATTO 2 has been designed with safety in mind. The Cell-to-Body construction ensures increased body rigidity over other compact SUVs, and the car also features driver’s and front passenger’s airbags, front side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags.
